It's taken a number of years but the city of Christchurch is starting to revive after the huge earthquakes that rocked the city over 8 years ago. Although there is a long way to go there are some very cool new buildings and areas to explore. The most recent is the lovely new library and slowly the Arts Centre which always attracted many visitors both local and international, is taking shape. This great painting by Christine King depicting the Arts Centre as it was is where we hope to get back to in the not too distant future.
Art Box Gallery is pleased to welcome Galina Kim to their list of talented New Zealand artists. Galina has an impressive history as an artist and tutor. Her work is exquisite and she is able to create landscapes, still life, flowers and iconic art with her own unique style. She originated from the Ukraine with a double Masters degree in Fine art and Design (Honours) and has since settled in New Zealand where she now finds the inspiration for her paintings. Galina has won numerous awards for her creations and we would be happy to furnish you with a list of these. Welcome to Art Box Galina, we are delighted to have you on board.
We work with a number of interior designers and architects who recommend their clients to our gallery for assistance choosing art for their homes and business. Fiona Renton from Sandalwood designs regularly sends her clients to us and here are some recent images (courtesy of her photographer) www.sandalwooddesign.co.nz
Art Box Gallery has been delighted to assist Dr David Kieser ( Orthopaedic Surgeon Christchurch) this week in the provision of the art for his medical rooms at Southern Cross Hospital. Located on the second floor 'Specialists at Nine' these extensive rooms have now been completed and are looking very impressive. A blank canvas hit us on the initial visit and a serious injection of colour and contemporary artwork was required! Following this visit Art Box came up with a draft plan of colours and ideas for each room, ideas for interiors and we also considered budget and use of space. After further discussion we visited with an array of art to choose from and finally this week we returned to hang the work. We are passionate about making spaces feel great and our affordable pricing and huge choice has given a much needed lift to the rooms. Why hire art? Money spent with nothing at the end to show for the expense and regular visits to change artworks that are never a perfect fit. Art Box is an affordable option and if we can't find the right piece we'll paint it for you!
It's lovely to hear how happy and satisfied our customers are with our service.

Thalita Alves commenting at London based Culture Trip: "Since the 2011 earthquake, Christchurch has experienced an artistic transformation. No longer are its galleries confined to High Street – new contemporary venues have been spreading their scope further afield. The diversity of the newest exhibition spaces to make their way into this New Zealand city is highly commendable, and is markedly evident in these 12 must-visit art galleries".
At Art Box we are always keen to hear about where people first heard about our gallery. Often it is through personal recommendation or via our website. Recently though a couple came in who had read about Christchurch art galleries in an article posted at Culture Trip. It's great to see Art Box described as a "must-visit art gallery" at this rapidly growing cultural forum. Since starting in 2011 we have been committed to making our 'little gallery with a lot of art' really stand out in terms of being a relaxed and friendly place where customers and visitors get a very special service. Do come and visit us at Art Box.
Many of our clients find a piece of work that they love but then worry that it's not going to it in with their home or business decor. Art Box Gallery takes the worry out of this issue and we either let you borrow the art or we are happy to come out and give you advice. Our clients really appreciate this service and it takes the stress out of buying the wrong work. Taking time to purchase art is a much better way or purchasing in a rush at an event/show that is a pressure situation. Don't have buyers regret, try your art before you buy. We pride ourselves in an honest opinion.
March 23rd to 25th 2018 saw the Canterbury Home Show event at the Horncastle Arena in Christchurch. Art Box Gallery and Swift Interior Designs combined with sponsorship from Resene to showcase the art and interiors at this 3 day expo. We met many new clients who loved our jewel like colour choice and as well as selling some art we we delighted to meet future clients and chat about our services. The feet were a bit sore and the voice box too at the end of it but it was great fun to share the stand and hopefully we will see some of these visitors when they build all those new homes and renovate the old ones!
Art Box Gallery® is very pleased that we can now offer work by Philip Beadle. Long before Art Box one of the earliest New Zealand paintings we bought was by Philip and we still love it. His unique style is infused with life, emotion, and light:
"Capturing the light striking a range of subject matter has always interested me whether it is the landcape, nude or cityscapes. I'm interested in our emotional response to the often fleeting memories we retain of something we have seen and how it affected us. It could be a glare on water or a pose we see for a millisecond as someone moves in every day life to touch their hair or dry themselves after a swim. I'm also concerned with creating an exciting painting surface with abstract qualities and enjoy painting in warm low evening or winter light to resolve form, colour and light into a warm companion on canvas".
