Over the Canterbury Show weekend Art Box headed south via Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, Clyde and Arrowtown collecting art, meeting artists, visiting studios and galleries and generally checking out the vibrant NZ art scene clocking up 1450 kms in four days. We stayed in some amazing historic homes along the way some of which dated back to the late 1800's. Here are a selection of images and paintings that we found along the way and have brought back to the gallery for you. We would be happy to share some of the beautiful places we stayed along the way and some delicious places to eat and drink too - just email us at [email protected]. We hope you can come and check out the gorgeous art soon. It's so good to be able to travel again after Covid lockdowns!

This week were delighted to be asked to supply artworks for the new Papanui branch of Saunders & Co. They have recently moved to the fourth floor at 7, Winston Ave and have updated to a contemporary bold and uplifting look. Art Box was able to visit and advise, revisit with some options and then quote and supply original New Zealand paintings all within a small timeframe. We appreciate companies such as Saunders & Co choosing to support other local businesses and especially NZ artists. We know that art not only enhances the spaces but clients and staff also benefit from vibrant colour making businesses a happier place to visit and work in. If you are a business that would like advice for affordable permanent art then don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. www.artboxgallery.info
Congratulations to our very own Livia Dias on her great article in the October/November issue of Aotearoa Artists Magazine. It's great to read about our talented artists doing well and enjoying success. We are delighted for her and even better to see her work feature on the front cover too!
Have you seen our recent advert in the monthly Art Beat? We are delighted about how much it stands out on the page and pleased to support this great quality art news publication. Since 2011 when we initially began the gallery to support local artists after the quakes, we have used this distinctive orange splash logo. You'll see it on our letter headed paper, our website, our signage and even all over our car! We often get noticed around town in our white Nissan Cube with the bright orange splashes! We have now been open for over 11 years so thank you so much for supporting our 'little gallery with a lots of art' and toot when you see us out and about.
Art Box is delighted to be included in the Arts and Culture section of ChristchurchNZ tourism news. We appear under 'Our Vibrant Art Scene' amongst some stunning galleries that are dotted around Christchurch and environs. We welcome tourists and visitors from all over the world (as well as local clients) physically in the gallery and also online at our website www.artboxgallery.info and social media. Thanks for supporting us and we look forward to meeting you soon!
To celebrate the arrival of our gorgeous first grandchild, we decided to have a little 'giveaway' competition. We asked our clients on facebook and our newsletter subscribers if they could tell us the colour of our branding and obviously that was ORANGE. Orange has been the colour of Art Box Gallery for 11 years and our splash logo is protected. You can see our Art Box Nissan Cube all around the city visiting homes and businesses. So thank you for all participating and congratulations to our winner. Keep following us and we might find a new excuse to have another giveaway soon!
"We love Art Box Gallery and would recommend it to anyone. Bev is welcoming and friendly, and there is a wide variety of art on display to view. It is a great place to go if you're not sure what you want and need time in a relaxed setting to look at different options. We ended up buying a Stephanie Crisp painting which we now have hanging in our dining area - it is a beautiful harbour scene that has added colour and interest to the room. Thank you Bev and Art Box Gallery!"
Christmas is just around the corner and this month until Tuesday 21st December, any clients that purchase a print or an original painting will go into the draw to win our beautiful hamper stocked with goodies. The hamper will be given away on Wednesday 22nd to one of our lovely purchasers. It is open to anyone around New Zealand whether you have purchased online or in the gallery. Good luck!
September 12th saw our Ten by Ten inch birthday celebrations at Art Box Gallery. We weren't going to let Covid-19 spoil the party so at level three we held the show online and thanks to all of our avid supporters it was a raging success. With over 100 ten inch originals from most of our lovely artists around the country we set about answering a mass of emails that flowed in to the gallery from 2pm that Sunday afternoon. With no presales it was quite a task to organise but everyone seemed to take the fun and rolled with it. We sold over 70 pieces and still are having sales afterwards so thank you to you all for supporting us over the last ten years and for celebrating with us. We had some individually wrapped biscuits made by Piper&Bloom locally and were able to hand out mini bubbles on collection. We shipped paintings by courier the following week as a complimentary service and although some clients sadly missed out on the pieces they wanted we are taking commissions. We were pleased to have an article in The Press and also Art Beat thanks to Dr Warren Feeney. It was so good to see so many little works hanging en masse and we are immensely grateful in these tough times to you all.
This year at the 57th ASA opening night (Ashburton Society of Artists) no less than four of the awards that were handed out on the night (awarded by artist and gallery owner Min Kim) were artists from Art Box Gallery! They included Christine Lang ( highly commended), Beverley Frost ( Forest and Bird) Polina Collins and Susie Millichamp. The annual art show is held in the main gallery in Ashburton, a wonderful space to exhibit in. It goes on until 30th July so if you get time you should head down for a good day out to view all of the winners and their art. Congratulations and thanks to the hard working volunteers at the ASA for a beautiful display of art, sculptures, photography and craft.
