One of our favourite activities when traveling around the country is to visit local art galleries. There are so many interesting art spaces and New Zealand is blessed with many wonderful artists and studios. One such gallery, Grainstore Gallery was a lovely find. In the old part of Oamaru north of Dunedin it is a wonderful large space, the studio and gallery of Donna Demente. Donna is an established, galleried artist and her space is a real treasure trove of original works, prints and eclectic sculptures. We spent a long time browsing and enjoying this gallery and it's well worth a stop over. We stayed at The Criterion, an old Victorian pub within walking distance and there is an excellent bakery truly worth a visit in the same area.
