Art Box Gallery began as an initiative to help Christchurch artists following the devastating 2011 earthquake. From the outset our mission was to provide a venue where affordable New Zealand art could be shown in a relaxed and friendly environment. We were fortunate in having a modern purpose-built facility which served as Beverley Frost's studio.
Over twelve years on Art Box Gallery is well-established as 'the little gallery with a lot of art' and the orange branding. We represent over fifty artists and have a reputation for friendly and relaxed service. With the benefit of on-site parking coming to Art Box is very convenient. If you live locally and are looking for art for sale in Christchurch, or you are visiting the city do come and see us at Loftus Street in Papanui. Our opening hours are currently Tuesday to Friday 11:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday 11:00am to 2:00pm. We are also able to provide home and workplace visits, something that has proved rather popular with art lovers.
It is also the case that the web and social media are becoming more important as conduits from gallery to art enthusiasts. Our event to celebrate ten years of Art Box had to be held as an entirely online function due to the Covid 19 situation. What is becoming increasingly evident is that art lovers will enthusiastically buy original paintings online if they have confidence in the gallery. We are also aided by innovative technology that allows us to remotely superimpose a painting on a photograph of your wall. This has proved very helpful when it's not possible to visit with artworks due to distance. We are rather flattered that a growing number of purchasers have never set foot in Art Box, because they live in other parts of the country or even overseas.
