Metropol Advert

Art Box Gallery is now advertising in the Christchurch Metropol, a lovely, glossy social magazine that gets 45,000 copies out and about in homes and businesses throughout Christchurch. This month the Art Box advertisement is featured in the Cup Week bumper edition of the Metropol. We are promoting Paul Smith's acrylic on canvas abstract painting called 'Darwin Was..' which is retailing for $500.00 along with our 'splash' logo designed by SlipStream creative, our favourite graphic design team.

Christchurch Community Arts Council

The Christchurch Community Arts Council (CCAC) is a voluntary incorporated body made up of elected members of the Christchurch arts community. CCAC's prime objectives are to:

Encourage and promote the practice, appreciation and enjoyment of all forms of artistic activity in Christchurch.
Act as an advocate for community arts in Christchurch.
Make grants and subsidies available for community arts projects.
Undertake any other activities that it determines are for the benefit of community arts in Christchurch.

CCAC is represented on the assessment committee of the Creative Communities Funding Scheme and serves as an advocacy group for the arts at a community level in Christchurch. The CCAC publishes an Arts Participation Guide for Christchurch and operates the Community Arts Funding Scheme to provide small grants to arts projects in the region. CCAC also supports a monthly Arts programme on Plains FM Radio.

Membership of their executive is by election at the September AGM or by request of one or more executive members at anytime during an executive's term of office.

Introducing Nigel Wilson

Nigel was born in 1957 and grew up in Wellington. He has been a full-time artist since leaving the teaching profession in 1997. He was Associate Art Teacher at Cargill High School for seven years.

He has a Fine Arts Degree from Ilam, University of Canterbury, completed in 1982, where he was tutored under Don Peebles. Since then he has exhibited regularly, winning a number of painting awards and is well represented in public and private collections throughout New Zealand and has 27 solo exhibitions to his name.   In the year 2000 Nigel moved to Alexandra, where he continues to boldly paint the Otago landscape. More recent involvement with the Central Otago Art Society saw his appointment as President in 2008-9.

We are pleased to be representing this established artist at Art Box Gallery. He work is exhibited at galleries around New Zealand. Welcome Nigel!
