'Summer Flames' NZ Art Calendar 2015

As we approach the Christmas season, we are delighted to announce that Beverley Frost has been selected for her work 'Summer Flames' to be included in the 2015 New Zealand Art Calendar. This lovely, glossy production is for sale nationally in Whitcoulls and other reputable bookshops as a large wall calendar and smaller desk top version as well as postcards. (Produced by Black Fish designs) The original painting is currently for sale at Art Box Gallery. An acrylic on canvas measuring 40x40cms, it was inspired by a trip along the beach front in Akaroa, Banks Peninsula last summer where the Pohutukawa trees flower prolifically 'en masse' each year. Here it is featured alongside the calendar so look out for it in the shops. The painting has now been sold (October 2014).

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO CREATE SOMETHING ARTISTIC BUT THOUGHT YOU DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TALENT? At Art Metro, they offer an oasis away from the everyday hustle and bustle, and believe that anyone can learn the skills required to create fabulous pieces of artwork - no matter how little, or how much talent they claim to have! In addition to their art tuition, Art Metro also have a wonderful cafe, where they serve some great coffee. The arty feel flows through from the art studio into the art inspired cafe. Picture abstractly painted tables, inspiring art on the walls, and the focal point, their amazing coffee cup mural - well worth a look!

If you want to try something new and creative go and visit them on Papanui Road (next to Animates) and ask to talk to Simon Walmisley, the owner. Simon will be very happy to chat to you about the different courses they offer and you can see the space they offer their student, young and old. It's great being part of a local business area, and surprisingly Papanui has a lot to offer away from the mall. Since the quakes it has become quite a little haven of restaurants, cafes and great little shops.

New to Art Box, Stephanie Crisp

Stephanie lives in Lyttelton on the Peninsula, an area she loves and is constantly inspired by. She has relocated from Hamilton where she worked in education teaching art in schools. Stephanie worked at Hamilton's Fraser High for sixteen years. She has many fond memories of students and their successes.

As an award winning artist, she exhibits nationally and receives commissioned work. Stephanie also teaches art to small groups and runs workshops. Stephanie Crisp paints in strong acrylic colour. Her work, often described as stunning, is beautifully constructed and balanced, often telling stories of places she has travelled to and areas she has lived in. She sometimes enhances work through collaged materials and will also use embroidery to intensify the surface quality of a work.
