Caring for your brushes is essential if you want them to last. Don't leave your brushes standing on the bristles in your water jar or they will become mis-shapen. You can buy brush cleaning soaps, I find Sard soap quite useful. Any reputable art shop such as Gordon Harris, Brush and Palette or The Drawing Room stock brush cleaners If you don't clean your brushes properly the colour will dry in the ferrule and stiffen up quickly. Use the appropriate solvents for the type of paints you use. Remember, if you paint with oils you will need to dispose of rags or newspaper carefully to avoid spontaneous combustion. Leave your cleaned and dry brushes (remembering to dry the handle) head up in a dry jar.

Today on our Art Box facebook page, we had our 100th 'like'. It is such a great way to let our art lovers know about all the new happenings at the gallery. We are all physically covered in liquifaction dust caused by the quakes but when people step inside the gallery they are loving the colour and journeys that the paintings take them on, away from the daily struggles of dust and destruction.
Welcome to our new blog for Art Box! It's been over 6 months now since Christchurch mayor Bob Parker officially opened the gallery and our stable of local artists has grown to over 20. Many art lovers have visited in that time and the comments have been really encouraging. It seems that our visitors from Christchurch and overseas are enjoying the great selection of original works and the friendly atmosphere and enjoy the fact that there is a working studio incorporated into the gallery. We have over 80 modern, original artworks (at this stage mostly paintings) and there is a vast selection from abstract to surrealist to realistic to choose from. We have sold lots of lovely paintings to clients who are coming back for more and bringing in their friends too. If you haven't visited us yet we are just off Main North road and near Northlands mall in Loftus Street, Papanui. We have our own parking under the gallery so no need to stress about where to park. We are open from 11am Tuesdays to Saturdays and all our details are on the About Art Box page. There aren't many place to view and buy art so hope to see you soon!
