"Looking back and reflecting on where creativity has taken me, I see how basic humble elements in life can lead to the highest flights of fantasy" (Kaffe Fassett).
Tonight sees the visit of Kaffe Fassett to Christchurch and I am really looking forward to a talk he is giving locally. Kaffe is a hugely inspirational figure for my own artworks. His use of colour and design fascinates me and earlier this year I visited the London College of Fashion and Design to see his exhibition ' A Life in Colour' in both artworks and textiles. He has written many books and his practice of knitting, quilting, needlepoint and mosaic is well known worldwide. Kaffe was born in California and in the 1960's relocated to London. Pattern, colour and meticulous design are used to great effect. Fassett spent time in India which is so evident in his stimulating use of colour. This image that was taken at the London show is one of favourite groupings of examples of his paintings. I just love the colour, repetition and subject matter. An evening with Kaffe Fassett and his partner Brandon Mably is being held tonight at Beckenham School Hall and has been organized by local business 'Stitch'.
