At Art Box we will aim to find a wall space in your home that will be suitable for the right conditions. We do not recommend original artwork to be hung in damp conditions such as in bathrooms and showers. The rear of a canvas will build up a layer of mould in time or a stretcher bar may warp as examples. Should you wish to keep an unframed piece dust free, we recommend using a wide soft paintbrush to gently brush in one direction and then another across the piece. Hold the painting at an angle so that the dust falls down free of your art. Never dust the surface with a stiff bristle brush, feather duster or cloths whether damp or dry. The fibres of the cloth will adhere to the tiny brush marks and cause damage. Also never use glass cleaner or cleaners and fly sprays near your artworks. They may well dissolve the varnish and the surface of the paint. If you have a cleaner please let them know this as well as we have had an example of this happening! When handling paintings white gloves are useful or failing that clean, grease free hands. We will touch on other handling/cleaning/preserving tips in time.
