Nic Tucker
Nic was born in Invercargill, of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Kahungunu descent. She graduated from the Dunedin School of Art in the early 90’s majoring in printmaking. She has lived and taught art in Taihape, Warkworth, and in the far north, Ahipara- Kaitaia and is now based in Napier. She has exhibited all around New Zealand.
She understands the importance of our connection to our whenua or land. She wanted to create a reflection of our divine landscape from our Maunga - mountains right down to our beaches. She is absolutely passionate about woodblock printing. The adapted Japanese process she uses allows the strength and beauty of our land to come to life through the carved lines and inked blocks. It takes her approximately 100 hrs to draw and carve the multiple blocks required for one of the larger works. A further 3 days to print up the blocks and around 8 days for it to fully cure or dry. Each work is individually inked up, mixing colours for each detail. The block is then rolled through her press, for each of the layers to sit upon the specialised cotton based paper. Every work is lovingly created to give its own unique outcome, within the edition of the piece.
