Kris Waldin
Kris was born in Christchurch in 1971 and studied art and design at Christchurch Polytechnic, graduating in 1992 with a diploma of Visual Communications. She has since worked as a graphic designer and illustrator along with some time away travelling, based in London and Edinburgh returning home along the Silk Route through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and China.
On returning from overseas Kris began painting and has been working as a full-time artist for 5 years now concentrating predominantly on landscapes and botanicals. Previous bodies of work have concentrated on the Arthurs Pass area, Kaikoura, the Peninsula and her latest exhibition ‘Limbs’ featured trees and plants from the local Oxford area.
She is a versatile artist who enjoys drawing in both pencil, charcoal and dry pastel as well as painting on paper and canvas. Her images are bold and layered with pours of colour often capturing a feeling of movement and energy in the landscape. She uses a wide variety of techniques including masking and pouring and wax resists as part of the process.
“I have a love for working with watermedia; both watercolours, inks and acrylics because of their transparent qualities and the happy accidents that happen when working with them. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques and creating interesting textures in my work."
