Jillian Wordsworth
Born in Christchurch and raised in rural South Canterbury, Jillian loved to paint as a child. Whilst living in Lower Hutt raising children of her own, she developed this passion through community art workshops and classes. She soon found herself exhibiting and selling her art, with works now held in private and corporate collections in NZ, Australia, and the UK.
Predominantly a painter of contemporary landscapes, Jillian often incorporates objects and symbols to explore issues of heritage and identity. Her rural Canterbury childhood is reflected in her wide open skies, with her use of muted tones and limited pallet creating an atmosphere of solitude and reflection.
A CS Arts Magazine review of her work writes of “the vastness of the horizon... where earth and sky meet...referencing and integrating the binary opposites such as light and darkness, land and sea, real and imagined, physical and spiritual—therefore becoming, primarily, a journey of the imagination, of wondering what lies beyond.”
