Florence Egasse
Florence is a French contemporary, self-taught artist. She moved from London to Christchurch convinced that the kiwi lifestyle fitted completely with raising a young family. She has always had the need to create and these days she relies on experiment, spontaneity, freedom and instinct to develop her artwork. She discovered art in the galleries and museums of Paris, but her interest in painting was truly ignited during her time working in the museums of Bayeux, Normandy (France) as a student. There she spent hours studying the composition and techniques of classic and modern artists. Later based in London she began experimenting with acrylic paint and was immediately drawn to the abstract quality of nature. This remains her passion today, her style developing into an expressive exploration of texture, light and transparency. She finds her inspiration around her, from nature, people, children's drawings, travels and interior design. She considers her work as an open book, for viewers to interpret and react to.
With a corporate career as a knowledge manager behind her and with the support of her family and friends she feels privileged to dedicate a lot of time to her childhood passion and she is always thrilled to be able to dress someone's walls with her art.
As well as developing and expanding current techniques, her abstract style evolves constantly as she researches and explores new ideas. Some of Florence's work is very intuitive and spontaneous, other is more planned and detailed, with obvious intention. She always challenges myself and try to think outside the box. The next project is usually underway before the last is finished. She enjoys the fact that people can interpret her paintings in different ways, see something new, feel something different, make their own story. With her European heritage, she has experienced many languages and like language she believes that art has this incredible ability to adapt, evolve, mature, capture diversity, feel, make people think or react, etc… bring people together. Her art is not prescriptive and has never been. She just goes with the Flo… and see where her art will transport her and her viewers.
…and like with food, a take away sounds great but she hopes that with her art she can excite your bud tastes with something different, original.
