Jo Midgley
Jo is a self taught artist who paints predominantly in oil paints. Her preferred subject is wildlife in their natural environment and also studies of New Zealand flora and fauna. Living on a sheep farm is where she draws inspiration. She employs an old fashioned layering technique, building colour and texture gradually to create scenes of a near three-dimensional quality. Her paintings take time and patience to achieve the final creation. Jo's aim is to capture movement and light, bringing a magical like realism to her paintings of everyday natural scenes. She desires that her work will invite the viewer into moments of serene wonder. She has lived at Glenhope, Tasman, on a farm for the past 25 years where she has become a full time artist. Prior to this she lived and worked in Christchurch as a qualified chef, so she has had two wonderfully creative outlets. Her works are in galleries in New Zealand.
